"Blue Yodel No. 2" by Jimmie Rodgers
I chose this song because it is nothing like what I usually listen to. Jimmie Rodgers is the father of country and I never listen to country. I don't hate country it is just not my genre of choice. In this song he utilises yodelling to express emotion and convey meaning. The banjo keeps a simple steady beat and he sings about morning a lost love. He lost his girl and now is depressed. The way he yodels to convey this emotion is just right; slow and somber, just the right pitch. Jimmie Rodgers sings a couple verses then yodels, that is the structure of the entire song.
Personally I won't add this song to my library. It is just too slow and boring for my taste. But if I lived back then I think I could have listened to this song on the radio and enjoyed it
I do love country music however this is a little too slow for me as well. The yodeling is a fun change and something new to listen to. but not something i can listen to regularly.
ReplyDeleteI also rarely listen to country music, but I thought this was a nice song. It is definitely slow and calm, which can be nice sometimes. However I would love a more faster, harder cover of this song because I think the story of this song and lyrics are nice.
ReplyDeleteIt's so interesting to hear other people's opinions! Personally I love country and I love yodeling so I thought it was cool to hear your perspective. I honestly loved this song and added it to my library to listen to later. I like how you described the song it was really interesting.
ReplyDeleteHi Tyler ! I liked how you described the mood of this song as “slow and somber”. I would definitely agree with you, and although I usually don’t listen to country, I really did like the yodeling. In my opinion, it brings out the melancholy atmosphere and helps to create a more vivid picture. Keep up the good work!
