"Bodysnatchers" by Radiohead

Image
One could have guessed I chose this song for my last blog. Radiohead is amazing they are a great rock band and inspired many great ones that came after.  "Bodysnatchers" came out in 2007 which was late into the bands cycle. It was their greatest hit since creep back in 93'. The song its self is very loud and has guitars blaring. The guitars have some sick solos and this is why it is included in my playlist. The drums play loud as well. Even though it is loud it gives off a very chill sound. The vocals are a nice touch as he has a great voice. It is a very mystical almost spiritual song. Then someways after being halfway through it goes from chill to crazy. Very aggressive guitar starts playing and it really is just a jam.

"Night of the Living Baseheads" by Public Enemy

I chose a rap song I didn't know. I listen to some classic rap but none of public enemy. I saw the music video in class and it was pretty cool. The song has a nice beat and some great bars. This song comes with the trend of commenting on issues in society. At the time cocaine was ravaging the black poor communities. The music video is satire and makes fun of those who think drugs and rap cause violence. The visuals are funny and unique. It's a pretty good song and I added it to my classic rap playlist.

"Jump" by Van Halen

This is an iconic and classic song that embodies the spirt of the 80's. Since I love rock I love Van Halen but this is one of their more overplayed songs. But it still is a good listen every once and awhile. The keyboard is really cool. Nothing more iconic than the keyboard playing its part. The vocals are amazing and they are accompanied with the occasional guitar rift. Then it has  some really good guitar solos. The song makes you happy and want to jump up and dance.

"I Shot the Sheriff" by Eric Clapton

I listen to this song a lot. It is a really enjoyable a tune. I had no idea that Bob Marley originally did it till a couple a years ago. Eric Clapton is a genius guitarist and he has some of the best songs ever. This song is in specific is nothing crazy but has a really jazzy guitar. A bunch of really nice riffs and steady beat make this a great song. The story that is told is really fun and simple. Basically it tells the story of a young trouble maker who has a sherif that has it out for him. Then one day the sherif came to shoot him down but the trouble maker shoots him down first. Gives some really cool old western vibes. 10/10 song recommend you add it to a playlist.

"Crocodile Rock" by Elton John

I enjoy this song a lot. It's upbeat and you never get bored. This is the first song I have written about that has electronic instruments being utilised other than electric guitar. I really like how he uses his keyboard and other instruments. Elton John is genius and it is amazing how he is still making music. He has an amazing voice and skill on the keyboard. It starts out with a simple piano and keyboard then a bass guitar comes in. Then he starts sing about the early days of rock. It does a great job on drawing on nostalgia. As the song proceeds it gets to a part where he sings really high pitch with the keyboard. I like this part a lot its really fun to listen to. This is overall just a great song and establishes the precedent for more pop rock to come.

A Hard Day's Night by The Beatles

Image
I chose The Beatles because I like their music. I don't get why some people don't like them! This song is pretty simple and catchy. It has a fast rock tempo to it. It also has some cool guitar to it which I like. The song is about a man getting home to his wife after work. You can really feel the emotion of love from the way he he sings. There is a a pretty constant pattern in the lyrics always leading back to a "hard days night". There are also two different singers. It's the perfect length of song not too long where it gets repetitive. The instrument and beat is really enjoyable as well. There are drums keeping the rhythm. Then some sweat guitars playing some chords. The guitars have a couple rifts that are really enjoyable. This is probably in my top 10 or 20 songs by The Beatles. It is crazy how many good songs they have.

"Hound Dog" Elvis Presley

Image
I recently watched the Elvis movie so I chose this iconic song. I will actually listen to this song regularly, I quite enjoy it. This song was originally preformed by  Ellie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton. But as I learned from the movie Elvis didn't just outright steal it. He actually grew up poor in a black neighbourhood and that's where he got his rhythm from. The target audience was young girls who were enthralled with Elvis at the time. But it is a timeless piece of music that defines the period of music. Although people can claim it is white washed, he is the King of Rock .     The song its self involves Elvis on lead vocals and "dancing". His dancing was a big part of his act. His whole body, hips, legs and all get into it and make for an exciting show. In the back he has a drum and a bass  keeping the beat. Then there is also a guitar in the back playing sweetly. The  guitar also plays a solo, that I like a lo...
